Royal Huisman unveils the 81m sailing yacht Noir with the ‘world’s tallest sloop rig’

Netherlands-based yacht builder Royal Huisman has unveiled the details of a new 81-metre sailing yacht, Noir, which features the ‘world’s tallest sloop rig.’Noir yacht exterior design with descriptionNoir features a contemporary design and reverse bow, with exterior styling and naval architecture by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design. Key features include her generous exterior deck spaces, as well as an extensive use of glazing and folding platforms to ensure guests are connected to the sea.

Also known as Project 411, Noir has been designed by a skilled owner and his team. She features the ‘world’s tallest sloop rig’ at 93-metres, and is designed for world cruising and exploration.

"The capabilities of Royal Huisman can be seen in various ways, with no doubt the most important proof point being that we are selected by knowledgeable owners, as the builder for their incredible and unique yachts,” explained CEO Jan Timmerman.

Once completed Noir will rank amongst the world’s largest sailing yachts, with her impressive mast height solidifying her as the ‘world’s tallest sloop.’ Her air draft will exceed the current tallest rig by around 4-metres.

“We are very pleased to be building again at Royal Huisman," said designer Malcolm McKeon. "Having built our award-winning 59.7-metre sailing yacht Sarissa there, we are well acquainted with the shipyard’s engineering skills, innovations, and the level of craftsmanship.”

Details surrounding Noir’s interior are being kept tightly under wraps, with her design developed by GCA Architects of Barcelona, Spain. The firm is known for their contemporary approach to residential and commercial buildings, including Spain’s first “smart” building and the world’s first platinum-certified LEED structure.Royal Huisman yard facility in VollenhovePhoto: Mike TesselaarDesigner Josep Juanpere Miret has promised an interior design that will complement her contemporary exterior, with a mix of woods and other natural materials to add texture, for a relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere.

The brief for Noir from her experienced owner included speed, power, and responsive handling. She is specifically sized to carry a 14-metre tender, allowing guests to explore further while onboard.

Constructed from all-aluminium, her mast, boom, and integrated sailing system will be supplied by Rondal. In keeping with her name Noir, all the deck gear and all her windows will be black and she will receive her auxiliary power by electric drives.

“I am pleased and humbled that we can highlight Royal Huisman’s 140th year of operation with the announcement of such a significant project. Of the hundreds of vessels our shipyard has delivered in its history, Project 411 will be our fourth yacht in the ranks of world’s top 10 largest sailing yachts,” concluded Jan Timmerman.

According to SYT iQ, Royal Huisman currently has several yachts in-build including the “world’s largest sloop”, the 85-metre Project 410 and the 65.2-metre Aquarius II.
